On Friday, we told you about a bad idea by Parks Chairman Eric Haugaard (D). He called a secret meeting of the Parks Committee on a different day and time as it usually is – Monday, the 5th at 6:50pm. There was just one item on the agenda. This item, if voted affirmatively, will give the retiring parks superintendent a “Washington Park Municipal Golf Course Lifetime Membership.” We told you that the local ordinances and state statutes prohibit such a gift.
If you were planning to attend the meeting and expressing your outrage as we were, don’t bother. The embattled Parks Chairman and Alderman, Eric Haugaard canceled the meeting shortly after our story ran. Either he reads the Kenosha County Eye (Thanks Eric!), or he got enough calls and emails that embarrassed him enough to scrap the idea. This same type of thing happened when Haugaard tried to erect a memorial and plant a tree in memory of Anthony Huber, the violent criminal killed by Kyle Rittenhouse after he tried to seriously harm the 17-year-old with a skateboard.
Because all of you who emailed, called and spoke to the Aldermen and other City staff, this terrible idea is dead. Haugaard fielded many emails and calls from citizens who criticized him, but ignored calls and emails from us.
We will be watching as we always do, for politicians who want to do stupid things behind closed doors. Remember Eric, “The Eye” has eyes everywhere, in the form of patriots who tip us off. See something? Say something. Haugaard is alleged to be mulling a run for mayor.

Smell that ? That is the smell of accountability!! Corruption by any other name is still a democrat in elected office . You get what you vote for Kenosha.
maybe have a meeting about opening Kennedy Drive for at least the hours the park is open. Haugaard has stolen the opportunity from the rest of Kenosha’s residents to enjoy one of the best areas of town. Open it up, instead of giving your friends more perks.
I would love to go thru kennedy park after 7pm. Close it at the time all the parks close. Someone needs to get the ball rolling. Or just start having sing alongs in the park at 7pm by his house on park grounds.
Speaking of parks; the gates at Southport park need to be closed at dusk. Nothing but drinking, drug deals and car sex happening after dusk. The next day the parking lot is littered with beer cans, alcohol bottles and condoms.
I think it was good that he pulled it from the agenda but the idea was not terrible. The ordinance is a bit out of date. But we do harp all the time about government being run like a business and businesses find ways to do such things.
There’s nothing that prevents everyone on the committee or anyone else from getting together and spending their own money on a going away party with or without presents. Hell, give him a new car, just don’t use tax money to do it. The $50 limit is very reasonable.
$50 was reasonable before inflation. The standard award plaques are now a bit more expensive than that.
Then the people who think so little of the taxpayers should dig into their own pockets and give him the additional for whatever size plaque they feel he is deserving of.
What is going on with the house built next the Stei brink Jr? I heard it is his sister’s house but I never see anyone coming or going. The only time I saw someone there was in the summer working on the yard and I saw Steinbrink St in that yard one time in the summer too. That’s it.
I fully support a person’s right to use “Anonymous” as their ID, but it gets a bit confusing, when multiple people are doing it.
Please find a way to differentiate among the different ones.
